The Quiet Side of Hvar: Best Intimate Wedding Venues
Hvar has a reputation. If you ask someone who visited five years ago, they’ll tell you about the world-class party scene and the bustling Riva. But for couples planning an intimate wedding or elopement in 2026/2027, there is a different story to tell.
Since the introduction of strict 85-decibel noise limits and a shift toward heritage tourism, Hvar has grown up. It has reclaimed its soul as a sophisticated, Mediterranean sanctuary, but with a distinctly Croatian heart. For a small guest list (2 to 40 guests), the island now offers a level of quiet luxury that rivals the Amalfi Coast, part of a growing high-end corridor that stretches across to neighbouring Brač
As a UK photographer living here full-time, I’ve found the corners where the light hits the stone just right and the crowds disappear. Here is my "Londoner's Take" on the best intimate spaces in Hvar.
Little Green Bay (Lozna Bay)
· The Vibe: Sophisticated, French-designed chic tucked into a private, turquoise cove.
· The Londoner’s Take: Imagine a Soho House relocated to a private Adriatic bay. This is peak quiet luxury.
· Photographer’s Tip: Arriving by speedboat isn't just a transport choice, it's a world-class photo opportunity. The isolation of the cove means we can capture wide, cinematic shots without a single tourist in the background.

The Hidden House (Stari Grad)
· The Vibe: Discovered, curated and deeply personal.
· The Londoner’s Take: Hvar’s answer to a luxury Notting Hill mews house, but with 2,000 years of stone history.
· Photographer’s Tip: The textures here, old wood, wrinkled linen and sun-dappled stone, are a dream for grabbing some informal portraits. As an ARPS (Associate of the Royal Photographic Society) documentary photographer, I’m drawn to the small details that define a day: the way the low Mediterranean sun hits a champagne glass on a stone terrace, or that first genuine, quiet exhale once the ceremony is over.

Vrboska: The "Little Venice" Ceremony
· The Vibe: A sleepy, stunning fishing village with arched stone bridges and a winding canal.
· The Londoner’s Take: If Hvar Town is Mayfair, Vrboska is Rock. It’s artistic, quiet and incredibly romantic. It’s the perfect spot for couples who want the beauty of the water without the super-yacht audience.
· Photographer’s Tip: Standing on a stone bridge for your vows is a fairy-tale. At blue hour, the reflection of the houses in the canal creates a backdrop that is unique in all of Dalmatia.

Maslina Resort (Maslinica Bay)
· The Vibe: Mindful Luxury. Modern, sustainable, and integrated into the pine forest.
· The Londoner’s Take: Hvar’s answer to a high-end California wellness retreat.
· Photographer’s Tip: The architecture uses natural light in a way that feels incredibly clean and modern, ideal for couples who want a sleek, contemporary aesthetic to their wedding gallery.
Why "Small" is the Secret to Hvar
In a town of marble streets, a large wedding is a logistical puzzle. By keeping it intimate, the island opens up:
· Peaceful Vows: The 85-decibel rule means your ceremony won't be competing with a bass line from a nearby club.
· The James Bond Arrival: For my UK and US clients, I always recommend the private water taxi from Split Airport. Wind in your hair, the smell of pine in the air and a glass of Prosecco in hand, it sets the tone before you even step on land.
