What Does an Intimate Wedding in Croatia Actually Cost?
Honest answers for couples still working out what's possible.
I’m going to assume, you're not here for a price list. You're here because you're weighing up options, Tuscany, the Algarve, maybe staying home and you want to know whether Croatia makes sense.
So, let's talk about what actually impacts the price of a ceremony here on the Dalmatian coast.
Guest count is the biggest factor
A 12-person elopement in Dubrovnik and a 60-person celebration are completely different budgets. Not slightly different. Completely.
Every additional guest adds to catering, transport, venue hire, staffing and coordination. The venue that looks affordable for a small group becomes expensive fast once you scale up.
If you're early in the planning process, getting clear on size first will tell you more about your budget than almost anything else.
Where you get married matters more than you'd think
Croatia and Dalmatia especially, isn't one price. Dubrovnik is a global brand — it's priced accordingly. The islands and smaller coastal towns offer something quieter and often more affordable, without sacrificing beauty.
There's also a difference between hiring a licensed venue (with built-in infrastructure, catering kitchens, facilities for guests) and choosing a more remote setting — a hilltop, a cove, a private terrace. Remote can mean magical. It can also mean bringing everything in, which adds logistics and cost.
Neither is better. They're just different.

The season shapes everything
Peak season in Dalmatia runs from late June through August. Venues are at their busiest, prices are highest and availability disappears early. Some couples book two years out for peak dates.
The shoulder season - May, early June, September, October — is a different story. It’s still warm, often more beautiful, noticeably lower costs and far easier to negotiate with suppliers. Whilst a 'best time' will be unique to everyone, there are certainly better times to take into consideration.
If you have flexibility on dates, it's worth using it.
Legal vs symbolic: more important than people expect
A legal ceremony in Croatia requires paperwork — certified documents, official translations, a licensed registrar, and enough lead time to get it done properly. It's very achievable for UK and US couples, but it adds administrative complexity and some additional cost.
A symbolic ceremony is simpler. Nothing less meaningful — some of the most intentional, moving ceremonies I've witnessed have been symbolic, including our own. We wrapped up the legal paperwork at home in the UK and had a party with everyone we knew would be able to make it out to Dubrovnik. Then we had the Croatian family and a few close friends join us for a symbolic ceremony at Sv. Vlaho and an epic party at Fort Lovrijenac.
Knowing which route you're taking early makes the planning cleaner.

What about photography?
Full transparency: I'm a photographer, not a wedding planner, so I can't give you venue or catering costs. But I can tell you that photography — like everything else here — varies based on the same principles: how long you need me, how complex the day is, whether accommodation is involved.
My pricing page acts as a guide, because no two weddings are the same. What I do is talk through what you're planning and give you a straightforward figure. No packages.
No add-ons. Just an honest conversation.
Croatia vs other destinations
For UK and US couples, Croatia frequently comes in more competitively than Tuscany, Santorini, or the French Riviera — especially outside peak season. It's well-connected from most UK airports and there are direct flights now every day into Dubrovnik and three times a week into Split.
It's also genuinely different. Not a backdrop. An actual place, with its own light, its own pace, its own way of making a day feel unhurried.
Whether that's worth the distance is a question only you can answer. But most couples who come here to get married say they can't imagine having done it anywhere else.
